The Most Common Causes of Vulnerable Websites

Feltöltés dátuma:

Nowadays, a website has become an essential tool for marketing and obtaining any kind of information, and it is extremely easy to obtain. Vulnerable websites are easy to attack, and attacks can cause not only reputational but also material and other damage to our company over time. What are the most common factors that make websites vulnerable?

  • coding errors

By human factors, we do not always mean only use, but also the creation itself. Even in the case of more experienced software engineers, we can find 15 to 50 bugs in 10,000 lines of code during creation.

  • faulty configuration

Incorrect configuration is a widespread problem and for websites, it means that unnecessary or unused services have been enabled, default accounts, passwords, default or incomplete configurations that have never changed, and so on. The point is that faulty configurations are detected by attackers, giving them access to confidential data.

  • site update

Updating your site is one of the easiest security maintenance measures, but it is also one of the most neglected. It is advisable to update your content management system, extensions, themes, extensions, and the server itself.

  • shared storage

The idea of shared hosting can seem quite tempting because it is more cost-effective than other solutions. Ultimately, however, it can cost us even more than other hosting solutions. There are two main problems with using shared storage. One is that it affects the site’s speed and performance, and the other is that it has security limitations. As for the latter, for example, not only the strengths are shared, but also the weaknesses, so for example if an attacker has access to one site, it will have to the others as well.

A website can become vulnerable for a variety of reasons, but with attention, these can all be eliminated to a greater or lesser extent. Operators tend to have a headache because of this, as creating security is costly and, so to speak, invisible, but just think of how much you can save by investing in a significant risk reduction and no significant costs for recovery and, in the worst case, compensation and/or rebuilding.
